Outdoor Trails and Zoo Adventures in Ottawa

I enjoy being outdoors when I can. Here's some good links to help you get outside. If you need equipment, there's a few places to start:

Here's some links to the trails and parks around the NCR.

If you want to see some animals with the kids, try these farms and petting zoos:

The Byward Market

If you come to Ottawa, the one place you have to visit, besides the Parliament Buildings and the Rideau Canal, (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is the Byward Market. This is an old-fashioned market place, with modern flare. You can eat at a multitude of unique cafes, trendy eateries, or just good ole pub grub. I used to work at a documentation company in the Market, and it was very handy to buy flowers, pickup gluten-free sausages (for my daughter, who has Celiac Disease), or if I needed a retail fix, I could always hit the Rideau Centre. Also checkout the Downtown Rideau street shops, if you're looking for a tattoo parlour or a record shop-yes, actual records, or "LPs", for those of you born before 1989. The Record Runner is no more, but End Hits sounds pretty good. Anyways, get down to the market, check things out and eat a Beaver Tail!

If you need promotonal stuff, I highly recommend Nicholas Promotions, T-shirts, mugs, you name it. He's in The Market too.

First Post Ever

>Well, here it is, my first blogsite. I wanted to extend my interests and favourite links to the world.
I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. (We are here on Google Maps) I think Ottawa is a great city, and there are lots of things to do here. Hopefully , this blog will be a good place to discuss the many facets of Ottawa, and maybe even help improve the quality of life here.

Here's a few good links for all things Ottawa:
  • ottawa.ca, the official site for our city; services, attractin and everything in between, for residents and visitors alike. A very good place to start.
  • ottawa.com, kinda like the one above, but focused on business.
  • kidsottawa.com, if you need to get the kids out of the house, to get their wiggles out.
  • Ottawa on Wikipedia, lots of info, especially if you want to brush up on your history of Bytown.
  • ottawatourism.ca, just what it says folks.
  • ottawakiosk.com, and ottawastart.com another couple places to find out what's going on in Canada's Capital.

Apparently, there are two waterparks opening in the NCR (National Capital Region) Calypso waterpark is near the town of Limoges, just off highway 417, east of Ottawa. The other park is called AlottawaWata, and it will be south of the city, off highway 416. Notice the word "Ottawa" contained in the name. Originally, both of these waterparks were to open in the summer of 2009.

Unfortunately, the openings have both been pushed back to 2010.

Here's some links:

Well, folks, that's it for me. I'll see you later.
